Dean Ashton thinks Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is a player ‘of that ilk’ that could replace Harry Kane at Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT.

The Radio pundit mentioned the thriving Leeds star, alongside the likes of Raul Jimenez and Danny Ings, as players who could lead Tottenham’s line if their Golden Boot winner departs this summer.

It has been well-documented that Kane wants to leave Spurs and his absence from pre-season training during the past few days is proof of that.

Manchester City seems to be the destination that Kane wants to head, but Spurs aren’t going to budge on the £160 million they want (Daily Star) for their star man.

If Kane does leave, Ashton suggested why someone like Bamford could replace him fellow countryman at Hotspur Way.

“How are you going to replace Harry Kane?,” asked Ashton. “Well, you don’t. You don’t just replace a player like Kane like that, unless you might want to spend the same again.

“But Nuno might want something different. You look at Jimenez, he’s the type of player he clearly likes. They are hard to find. There’s not many around in the Premier League.

“You maybe look at Bamford? He is of that ilk, who can lead the line, work incredibly hard and links the play. Jimenez is another if he shows his fitness, which is what he is showing in pre-season.

“Do you look at think ‘Danny Ings could be a great option?’ Somebody who guarantees goals in the Premier League. But there are question marks over his fitness.”

Well, if Tottenham fans think Daniel Levy is going to be tough and stubborn in allowing Kane to leave then they would find it even difficult trying to lure Bamford towards their direction if they ever went for him.

In truth, both sets of supporters wouldn’t want their star men to leave, but that’s how transfers start to roll.

One team doesn’t want to lose their star man, and when they do, they replace him with another team’s top performer.

And whilst Bamford missed out on England’s squad this summer, the £10 million player (BBC Sport) was the second-highest English goalscorer behind Kane in the Premier League last season.
