Everton fans have reacted on Twitter to Sam Allardyce’s claims about his style of play compared to Rafa Benitez’s.
It seems as though Everton are going down the route of employing the former Liverpool boss as their next coach, despite his affiliation with their Merseyside rivals, as reported by Sky Sports.
Allardyce, of course, managed Everton for a brief period, but it wasn’t all plain sailing for the experienced coach.
A lot was made of his style of play, and speaking to Sky Sports, Allardyce claimed that he is a similar coach to the man Everton are about to appoint.
He seemed to have a dig at the Everton fans by saying ‘if you call me a defensive-minded coach then Rafa is exactly the same’.
His comments have drawn a mixed reaction from the Everton supporters, who are seemingly divided on Benitez’s imminent arrival as it is.
Some have pointed towards Benitez’s trophy-laden career as the big difference maker between the two, whilst others think their defensive styles are actually similar.
Either way, it’s going to be a rollercoaster and drama-filled time on Merseyside, as Benitez is set to come up against Liverpool next season.
A flag bearing his face is usually waved around the Kop and it will be interesting if that remains the same next season.
