Chris Sutton has suggested on BBC Sport that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should not have taken off Mohamed Salah against Chelsea.

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

Mason Mount scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute, as the Blues enhanced their chances of finishing in the top four of the league table this season.

Salah started the match, but Liverpool manager Klopp decided to take him off in the 62nd minute.

Former Chelsea striker Sutton was following the match for BBC Sport, and he has noted that the Egypt international forward was not happy and has suggested that it was the wrong decision from Klopp.

Sutton said on BBC Sport: “I can see Mo Salah there he’s sat on the bench shaking his head and muttering to himself he’s not very happy. It was a strange call really, Salah’s not had a particularly good game but neither have any of the Liverpool players.”

Strange decision from Jurgen Klopp?

Salah has been scoring goals regularly this season, and while some will argue that the Liverpool forward has not always worked hard defensively enough, him staying on the pitch would have enhanced the Reds’ chances of scoring against Chelsea.

After all, the 28-year-old has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in the league, and has scored four goals and provided one assist in the Champions League for Liverpool so far this season, according to WhoScored.
