Jamie Carragher has slammed Davinson Sanchez and claimed he ‘wasn’t ready’ when Tottenham kicked-off in the North London derby on Sunday, as he told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (27/09/21 at 7:30 pm).

Spurs were outclassed by their rivals and Carragher was baffled as to how Nuno Espirito Santo’s side approached matters.

Going 3-0 down, inside the first half, in any game against your local rivals is a difficult one to take.

But, on this occasion, the scoreline matched the abject performance put in by Spurs, who were probably lucky it wasn’t more.

It was Spurs who started proceedings over the weekend and Carragher couldn’t believe that Sanchez wasn’t even ready to receive the ball when his side started the game.

“There were some shocking performances from Tottenham players here,” said Carragher. “But what I would say is that I think the manager is equally culpable in this result and how he set up.

“The first clip I am going to go to is straight from kick-off. Normally, we see a lot of teams do this, you go back and then you go direct.

“They come up (from taking the knee), now straightaway, you will get the attacking players (run into the opposition half), play a long ball and try to win the ball.

“But the player you are passing it to, he’s not ready, Davinson Sanchez. And you know that ball is coming to you, it’s going to be your first touch in the North London derby. Everybody is ready to go and you aren’t ready.

“Then, because he’s not ready, Tottenham can’t go long.”

It’s a pretty worrying start for Spurs because their performances were even being questioned when they were winning games.

And now that they are losing, it’s looking a lot worse, which doesn’t help the cause of the man in Tottenham’s dugout.

Added with that, there are many players, from the likes of Sanchez, Eric Dier and Dele Alli, that were all under-performing before Nuno arrived.

And, once again, are heading down the road of doing the same under this manager.
