A claim has been made that Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason has told the players that he wants the job on a permanent basis.

Back in March, the Athletic journalist David Ornstein had revealed that the Englishman was a ‘very popular’ candidate to take over the role.

It seems like Ryan Mason now backs himself to become the Tottenham Hotspur manager as well.

Ryan Mason tells Tottenham players about manager job ambitions

The 31-year-old has had a mixed stint during his second stint as his former club’s caretaker boss.

While Spurs’ fightback from two goals down against Manchester United was impressive, their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool was a laughable result, considering their incredible comeback from 3-1 down.

However, the London-based side did also manage to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in their latest outing, which was a much-needed three points.

It seems like Ryan Mason has enjoyed his time as Tottenham interim manager and now wants the job permanently, as per journalist Charlie Eccleshare.

“Well, he said in his first press conference that he wanted the job full-time, and he’s been clear with the players that is his ambition, and he’s not hiding from that. That’s been really striking.”

“He’s taken it head on. He started his press conference on Friday by congratulating the U18s for their win, the contrast between him and Conte couldn’t be greater”, he said on The View From The Lane Podcast.

HITC View: Tottenham should not let emotions get in the way of a major decision

While it would be a fairytale to witness a former Tottenham player in Ryan Mason lead the club to glory, it would be a ludicrous decision to appoint him as their next manager.

The club could potentially lose out on Harry Kane’s services in the summer, still lack a sporting director, a misfiring squad that needs an overhaul and a missing tactical blueprint.

With there being no end to Spurs’ problems, it would be naïve to appoint Mason, when experienced managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are currently out-of-work.

If Tottenham do end up putting their full faith in Ryan Mason, things could get very ugly down the line.
