Alan Smith has said live on Sky Sports that Gareth Bale did not look happy when he was taken off by Jose Mourinho after an hour of Tottenham Hotspur’s match with Arsenal yesterday.
Spurs removed Bale from the field, after the Welshman struggled to have much of an impact on the game.
At the time, Tottenham were level with Arsenal, with the scores locked at 1-1.
However, Matt Doherty was clearly struggling down Spurs’s right and Mourinho made a defensive substitution, by opting to replace Bale with Moussa Sissoko.
It was a decision which didn’t go down particularly well with Tottenham’s supporters, and Bale did not look best pleased with the action either.
The 31-year-old trudged to the bench and shook his head, after being taken off.

And Smith noted: “It’s the Bale that we saw in the early days of his Tottenham career, just on the edges of the game. He’s not happy.”
Smith’s comments are interesting as Bale has been accused of looking too happy on the bench for Tottenham recently.
The winger’s annoyance was understandable after yesterday’s game though.
Bale was not given much service at all by his Spurs teammates, and things did not improve too much after he was withdrawn.
Tottenham ended up falling to a 2-1 defeat, with Mourinho’s side only really showing some attacking intent following Erik Lamela’s red card.
