Micah Richards told the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport that Sergio Aguero is ‘obviously not happy’ with his game time hence his decision to leave Manchester City.
Both Manchester City and Aguero confirmed on Twitter on Monday that one of the Premier League’s greatest ever strikers will be leaving in the summer when his contract expires.
Injuries disrupted Aguero for large parts of the season, even though he has been fit and available in recent weeks, it has still resulted in limited game time for the hitman.
And in truth, nobody can blame Pep Guardiola given the ridiculous winning run Man City have been on, even without a recognised number nine, at times.
Nonetheless, Richards, who would have seen what Aguero was like first hand at the Etihad, admitted that he is disappointed in the news that Aguero will leave.
“Let’s have it right, he’s going because he’s not played football and when he’s been fit,” said Richards.
“We can jump through hoops and try to butter up the way (he’s leaving). But he’s obviously not happy with the amount of game time he has played when he’s been fit.
“And the way the team has played, Guardiola’s decision has been justified because they played so well without, at times, a recognised striker. But that doesn’t help the way I feel about it.
“You are telling me when Aguero is fully fit, even at the age of 33, for next season, that he cannot score you 15, 20, 25 goals a season? Of course, he can.”

Now debates will circle far and wide as to where Aguero’s name should be etched when talking about the great strikers of the past.
Whilst your Jimmy Greaves don’t get a mention because football was invented in 1992, the likes of Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer will be trending worldwide during the coming days because the Argentine maestro deserves to have his name alongside those greats.
