It looks like Ismaila Soro has a long way to go before he is considered a success at Celtic.
The Hoops signed him for a £2 million fee back in January but fast forward nine months, the midfielder has played just 16 minutes of football in all competitions.
Soro had a couple of decent cameos against Hibernian and Ross County a little earlier this season but it seems like he’s nowhere close to making a Celtic starting XI.
Neil Lennon’s side went down 2-0 to Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday and former Gers star Gordon Dalziel has questioned the transfer policy at Paradise this year.
Patryk Klimala, a £3.5 million signing in January, managed to touch the ball only 12 times in yesterday’s defeat, while Shane Duffy, who joined on loan from Brighton last month, didn’t cover himself in glory during the Old Firm either.
Here’s what Dalziel said to Radio Clyde: “I do think in the transfer market they have been better than Celtic. Klimala, I feel so sorry for the lad – Soro, how much did they pay for him and he’s not even been seen.”
The obvious explanation behind Soro’s relative anonymity so far is that he simply isn’t pulling his weight in training.
If he was, Lennon, who often speaks about the link between your training-ground performance and making the first XI, clearly would have thrown him into the mix by now.
Spending £2 million on a player is hardly pocket change and the truth is that Soro needs to improve – and fast.
