Danny Murphy has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur target Naby Keita has flopped in the Premier League with Liverpool.
The former Liverpool midfielder thinks Naby Keita ‘hasn’t been what people thought he was going to be’ following his big-money transfer in 2017.
At the time, the Reds agreed to pay RB Leipzig £48 million for the all-action midfielder (BBC Sport), before he joined the club 12 months later.
But, fast forward to the present, and at the age of 28, he is set to leave for nothing in the summer – you have to then question why Spurs are seemingly looking at signing him.
Either way, during his time in the Premier League, he has seven goals and five assists to his name from 84 Premier League matches, it just hasn’t worked out for the player.
Yes, he will point towards constant injury issues, but as Murphy mentioned, Keita just isn’t good enough, as he told talkSPORT.
“Keita hasn’t done great,” said Murphy. “He’s not been what people thought he was going to be.”
WHAT NEXT FOR KEITA?
Tottenham fans will certainly be hoping the £120k-a-week star (Spotrac) doesn’t head towards their direction because they have enough problems as it is.
Given that there won’t be any fee involved with Keita, he won’t be short of offers in the summer.
Perhaps it would be wise to return to Germany because, a bit like Timo Werner, the Premier League’s intensity and hard-hitting levels just don’t suit him and are too much for his body.
