Ian Wright has criticised Michail Antonio’s latest performance for West Ham United.
The Hammers hitman kicked off the Premier League season by netting six times in as many matches but he is enduring a difficult patch since then.
Antonio, who cost West Ham £7 million in 2015, hasn’t scored in 13 outings across all competitions now.
And against Arsenal on Wednesday night, the powerful attacker was largely ineffective as a focal point.
Wright, who also played for the East Londoners, has commented on his display, saying that he didn’t help David Moyes’s outfit one iota.
He began the game as the spearhead of West Ham’s attack but wound up on the flank for the most part.
He told Optus Sport: “He needs to hold those and let people come support him. That’s one of the inexperience of being a centre-forward.
“He’s very good at it but in these instances you think to yourself okay just turn now and let people come out and keep it. This is where West Ham are falling short because he’s not actually helping the team at all.”
Isolation
During the first half, Antonio didn’t actually manage a single touch of the football in Arsenal’s box.
And if ever there was a statistic which summed up Antonio’s night, it’s that one.
There’s no doubt that the former Nottingham Forest forward is an absolute nightmare for Premier League defences on his day.
However, Antonio is suffering through a major rotten patch at the moment and the sooner he snaps out of it, the better for West Ham United.
