John Collins has warned Celtic on BBC Sportsound against appointing Fergal Harkin as the club’s new director of football.
The Scottish Sun reported in February that Celtic are interested in appointing Harkin as the new director of football.
Harkin is the football partnerships manager at Premier League club Manchester City.
Former Celtic assistant manager Collins, a former Scotland international, has praised Harkin for the work he has done at City, but he has warned the Hoops against appointing him in the director of football role as he does not have any experience in that particular position.
Collins said on BBC Sportsound, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “Fergal’s role at City when Ronny and I were dealing with him was to look after the loan players.
“He did a good job for Celtic when I was there. He was responsible for Jason Denayer, John Guidetti, Patrick Roberts and Dedryck Boyata all coming to the club. And all were successful at Celtic.
“He has a good relationship with Peter Lawwell and the Celtic board so he’s a possibility for his role. But he’s never been a director of football before.”

Big decision
Celtic are on the hunt for a permanent manager following the departure of Neil Lennon in February.
The role of a director of football has grown in importance over the years, and the Glasgow giants have to take the decision very carefully on who they appoint.
With Rangers winning the Scottish Premiership title with ease this season, the Hoops will have to rebuild in the summer of 2021, and the best available manager and the best person for the director of football role is key in taking them back to glory.
