Speaking on The FPL Show, Ollie Watkins has named Virgil van Dijk as the toughest player he’s ever come up against.
To be fair, the Dutchman is the toughest defender most attackers have ever come up against. After all, he’s one of the best centre-backs on the planet.
Indeed, van Dijk is a former PFA Player of the Year, and one thing that Watkins was blown away by was the 30-year-old’s pace.
Watkins stated that van Dijk never finds himself in a race, naming his pace as one of his top attributes.
What’s been said?
Watlins spoke about van Dijk.
“It has to be van Dijk, I said it last year, he’s quick, he’s strong, he gives himself enough space so that he never gets exposed, he’s never in a race and if you ever do get the ball, you can’t get around him.” Watkins said.

Toughest opponent?
Watkins says that van Dijk is his toughest opponent, and we can see where he’s coming from.
Van Dijk is incredibly good, but Watkins actually seems to have his number a little bit.
All Aston Villa and Liverpool fans will remember that the striker netted a hat-trick against the Reds in the Villans’ history 7-2 win against the Merseyside club last season, and van Dijk couldn’t keep tabs on Watkins at all on that day.
Van Dijk may be his toughest ever opponent, but he’s had one very good day against the Liverpool centre-half.
