Matt Doherty has posted on Instagram that he is ‘ready to get back to work’ after recharging his Tottenham batteries.

Whether ‘back to work’ means Tottenham or elsewhere remains to be seen, as some Spurs fans see the defender staying in north London beyond Monday’s deadline.

This was the message Doherty posted on his Instagram, as he seemingly spent his mini winter break with Harry Kane and Eric Dier playing a round of golf.

The Athletic have reported that Doherty is one of the players on Tottenham’s list that could depart before deadline day.

Signed by Jose Mourinho, it hasn’t worked out for Doherty since moving to north London and the fact that his former Wolves boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, hardly played him during his time at the club speaks volumes.

It would be interesting if an offer were to come in for Doherty, whether Spurs would allow him to go.

On one hand, Antonio Conte needs depth in that area so he can’t just let him go without a replacement.

Plus, who is a better option as a right-sided wing-back, Doherty or Emerson Royal, who has also struggled since joining the club?

Spurs fans would probably say neither and would probably prefer if Daniel Levy backed Conte in the market.

But, at the end of the day, this is Levy and Conte, if he doesn’t know already, will now realise just how difficult he can be in the transfer market.
