Chris Sutton believes Gianluca Scamacca has “let David Moyes down” at West Ham this season after his move from Sassuolo.

What’s the story?

Well, the Italy international’s £35.5m move to West Ham back in July caused huge excitement amongst West Ham supporters.

Scamacca had just scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances to cement himself as one of Europe’s most wanted forwards.

However, the £71,000-a-week man has experienced a difficult debut campaign at the London Stadium, scoring just eight goals in 27 outings across all competitions.

As a result, Sutton believes Moyes will be feeling let down by his No.7 right now.

Speaking on BT Sport last night, the 50-year-old said: “I think he’s let David Moyes down in a way. David would have expected far more.”

In our view, those comments are quite harsh from Sutton.

West Ham must be patient with Scamacca

Of course, many fans would have expected more than eight goals from Scamacca at this stage of the campaign.

However, it is worth noting that West Ham – as a team – have been poor this season, and that hasn’t helped the Italian settle.

Scamacca only recently turned 24 and is still adapting to English football – a beast which has often chewed up some of Europe’s most exciting talent before spitting them out as half the player.

There have been flashes of his brilliance, and Moyes hasn’t exactly managed the situation well having left his No.7 on the bench across the last four Premier League outings.

That won’t do Scamacca’s confidence any good whatsoever, to say the least.

Hopefully, the Roma-born striker can now start to find his feet after scoring against AEK Larnaca in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

West Ham certainly need Scamacca to do so, as they find themselves at serious risk of relegation.
