Aston Villa fans on Twitter aren’t happy with Danny Mills’ comments on Sky Sports about Jack Grealish.
The ex-Leeds defender told Sky Sports that he’s ‘not convinced’ the Villa playmaker should start for England against Croatia this Sunday.
England kick-off their Euro 2020 campaign at the weekend, with Grealish in line to start – he picked up the Man of the Match award during his last outing for his country.
Nonetheless, Mills claimed that if Phil Foden and Harry Kane are going to play then Gareth Southgate ‘needs some pace’ up top.
And that’s why the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling are ahead of him in the pecking order.
Mills’ comments haven’t sat well with the Villa faithful, who think their boyhood fan should be starting for his country on Sunday.
Others also pointed out that Grealish does indeed have pace because it is quite a myth that the light-footed number 10 is slow.
For England in recent matches, Southgate used Grealish in behind the striker, but as he has shown for Villa, he can also be deployed out on the left.
If Southgate pushes for five at the back then that decreases Grealish’s chances of starting, but if it’s a three-man midfield then the Three Lions might just see the Villa man linking up with Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
Grealish created 70 chances from open play in the Premier League this season – only Bruno Fernandes created more (77), and that’s despite the Villa man missing nearly three months of action.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Mills’s comments about Grealish:
