Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Jason Cundy has been discussing Arsenal’s fantastic start to the season and William Saliba.
The Gunners have been brilliant at the beginning of this campaign, and that’s down to the fact that many of their young players have stepped up massively.
One of the surprise stars of this season has been Saliba. After a number of years out on loan, the Frenchman has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders, and according to Cundy the youngster is already one of the top three centre-halves in the country.

Cundy lavished praise upon Saliba.
“They have gone younger and there have been one or two players who have added to this. Martinelli, Saliba, he’s come back nobody saw Saliba being the best centre-half in the country, you can debate that, he’s in the top two or three right now, that’s another performance he’s added,” Cundy said.
Best in the league?
It’s really hard to make a case against Saliba being the best centre-back in the Premier League this season.
Virgil van Dijk is massively out of form, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte have been in and out of the Man City team, while Thiago Silva is showing signs of slowing down at Chelsea.
In all honesty, it’s not outrageous to claim that Saliba genuinely has been the very best defender in the Premier League this season, and he’s played a massive part in Arsenal’s ascent to the top of the table.
Saliba may not have been signed this summer, but bringing him back from loan may well have to be considered as one of the best bits of business we’ll see from any team all season.
