Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has opened up about the future of one of his midfielders, Conor Gallagher. The Englishman has been linked with a move to West Ham United this summer, as Chelsea continue negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Blues’ game against Newcastle United kicking off at 1am UK time, Pochettino was asked about the future of the 23-year-old.

“Gallagher is in our plans,” the former Tottenham Hotspur manager said. “In football, things can happen that we can’t manage but I am happy with him.”

This comes after David Moyes’ West Ham saw their offer of £40 million for the midfielder rejected by their West London counterparts according to the BBC.

It now seems that the Hammers have moved onto alternative targets with Manchester United midfielder Scott Mctominay believed to be of interest to David Moyes according to the Telegraph.

Midfield targets

One of the longest sagas of this summer’s transfer window has been the ebbing and flowing deal of Moises Caicedo moving to Stamford Bridge. Brighton reportedly value the midfielder at £100 million according to the Daily Mail, a figure that Chelsea are seemingly unwilling to go near.

Offers of £60 million and £70 million have been made by Pochettino’s side and rejected by the Seagulls and it seems Pochettino is reportedly getting frustrated over the lack of movement with Chelsea’s midfield in serious need of reinforcements according to The Times.

“We need one more at least,” the 51-year-old said. “We are working on that. It depends on what happens in the next few weeks. The club are working on it.”

The report from The Times also states that Pochettino is concerned by the lack of experience in his team and the lack of midfield reinforcements so far as the Premier League kicks off in just over two weeks time.
