Craig Burley has hit out at Jurgen Klopp and claimed that the Liverpool manager is ‘in his own head’, as he told ESPN.

The former Scotland international wasn’t pleased with Klopp’s comments ahead of Liverpool’s showdown with Manchester City today.

Klopp claimed that the current Premier League leaders have benefited from a ‘two-week break’ because of COVID, which left Pep Guardiola ‘surprised’, as he told BBC Sport.

Ahead of today’s game, Burley broke down the amount of rest Liverpool and Man City have had this season.

“I think Jurgen Klopp is in his own head,” said Burley. “Nevermind, trying to get into other managers head. I am not quite sure where these two weeks came about. Can anybody shed some light on this, for me?

“Both teams had a break, by the way, from the 8th November. Man City to the 21st and Liverpool to the 22nd. Over Christmas, Man City did have a break between the 26th of December to the 3rd of January.

“Then Liverpool had this break. Fourth of January, they lost at Southampton. They didn’t play in the Premier League again until the 17th of January and that awful game against Man United. That’s 13 days.

“Now, there was a game in between that, which was on January 8th. But that FA Cup game was against Aston Villa’s under-23’s, so it’s basically a training game – so, he’s in own head, put it that way.”

It’s clear that Klopp is trying to take the pressure off his team because of the current problems they have endured.

Back-to-back home defeats, injuries, lack of balance and failing to score again has managed to take its toll on the current champions.

But if Liverpool lose today then they will fall ten points behind the current leaders, so it’s a must-win for the Reds today.
