Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has lauded West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen following his return from injury this afternoon to face Everton.

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the Premier League clash, the recently-retired attacker was full of praise for the former Hull City star, with Bowen now back from an injury that has kept the forward out of West Ham’s past few games as well as a potential England call-up.

Bowen has been one of the best players in England this season, with the 25-year-old bagging an impressive 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for West Ham, who are vying for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

With the Irons also in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, Bowen’s return has come at a perfect time for West Ham, and Defoe is a huge fan of the attacker, who could be key to the Hammers’ European and domestic success this season.

Defoe said: “He’s definitely someone who impressed me. The goals that he’s scored, technically he’s so good. And you just know he’s one of the top players given that he’s back from injury and straight back in the team.

“This is the business end of the season, and you need all your best players back if you’re chasing that top-four spot. It would be a dream for him to play in the Champions League. To have him back is massive, he’s probably their best player.”

With double digits in both goals and assists, Bowen’s form this season has been nothing short of magnificent, and Defoe’s praise of the winger highlights just how good the attacker has been in the past 12 months.

Indeed, Bowen will be key if West Ham are to make more history this season, and with the forward now back to full fitness, the winger’s performances in the coming weeks could be the difference between the Irons qualifying for Europe again or missing out on continental football.
