Clement Lenglet has told Tottenham Hotspur’s website that he is delighted for Oliver Skipp after the midfielder opened his account for Spurs on Sunday in a 2-0 win over Chelsea – applauding him for overcoming some “difficult moments”.

Skipp, 22, netted his first for Spurs in what was his 67th outing for the North London club. Winning the ball back on the edge of the Chelsea box after a poor clearance, he fired an effort into the roof of the net past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

A wonderful moment for Skipp, who not only scored his first goal for his boyhood club. But it comes after a string of injury problems, including a hip issue that kept him sidelined for months. A loan to Norwich during 2020-21, too.

Lenglet spoke about his injury issues when discussing Skipp, underlining just how happy he is for Skipp as he netted his first goal. Skipp is likely to remain in the side when Spurs take on Championship side Sheffield United in the FA Cup.

“He deserved it because he’s a hard worker every day, every training session, he’s 100 per cent. When you have a player like this in the team you are always happy to see him happy,” Lenglet said, as per Tottenham’s website.

“To share a beautiful moment like today, not only a beautiful goal, but also an important for the team. He’s had some difficult moments but he’s back with a great attitude, commitment and he’s playing really well, so we’re all happy.”

But what is crucial for Skipp, is that he keeps plugging away – as stated by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Not to let it get to his head and continue the upwards curve that has seen him shine in recent games against Milan, West Ham and Chelsea.

Spurs’ season hinges on the next few games. The FA Cup is the only realistic chance they have of winning silverware this term – and Sheffield United is their next game. Then, a trip to Wolves, before facing Milan in the second leg.

So, three big games on the horizon – before a decent run of Premier League fixtures. Everything is in place for Spurs to go and have a good run of form – if they can stick to the form shown against West Ham and then Chelsea.
