Garry Monk told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Blackburn’s win against Middlesbrough that reported West Ham target Adam Armstrong has ‘grown’ as a footballer.

The former Championship boss thinks the 17-goal Blackburn man, who is a rumoured target for West Ham, is a Premier League player in waiting.

TEAMtalk have recently claimed that West Ham are interested in the ex-Newcastle United hitman.

Armstrong has tasted Premier League football before, but it didn’t work out for him at St James’ Park as he failed to bag a goal, but Monk shared that he is a fan of the revived speedster.

On whether Armstrong is a Premier League player in waiting: “Potentially, yes,” said Monk. “I have always liked him.

“One thing that you always need in your forward line is pace and pace will hurt any defender, at any level. But he has grown.

“The other part of his pace is his work rate. He does a lot of things off the ball for the team. I think he knows where he needs to go.”

West Ham have been linked with near-on every striker in Europe since the window opened, so who they will sign is anyone’s guess, at this moment in time.

David Moyes is pretty comfortable with having Michail Antonio lead the line for him this season because he has been doing bits from the first whistle.

But where the problem lies is the fact that he has an injury record that keeps everyone in East London worried, so that extra body up top is needed.
