Before January, Christian Eriksen was having a tough time at Inter Milan, following his £16.9 million move to the San Siro in January 2020.
The 103-cap Denmark international was struggling, and hadn’t scored – or assisted – a single goal for the Italian giants all season.
That led to talk of an exit for the 29-year-old.
Tutto Mercato Web claimed that a return to Tottenham could be on the cards as Eriksen looked to escape his Serie A nightmare.
In the same report from Tutto Mercato Web, Everton were also mentioned as a potential destination for the former Ajax maestro.
Now, however, Eriksen has started to turn things around in Milan.
He netted a wonderful freekick in the dying stages of the Milan derby on January 26th to help Inter claim a 2-1 win over their arch rivals.
That piece of genius seems to have given him the confidence to kick on, with Antonio Conte now singing his praises to the media.
Tutto Mercato Web quote the ex-Chelsea boss as saying: ‘As I said in the past, I think he needed some time to settle in and to understand Italian football, which is not easy because he is very tactical.
‘Now he is also starting to understand the language well, he is growing and you can see it on the pitch. I can count on him and I am more serene.’
It’s good to see Eriksen finally coming good for Inter after such a long period of mediocrity. Perhaps talk of an exit spurred him on to turn things around.
Who knows, Tottenham and Everton could presumably still be keeping an eye on him after his recent exploits.
However, in our view, his value will only keep increasing with each impressive display he delivers for Conte.
