Charlie Austin told talkSPORT (28/07/21 at 9:30 am) that Ben White has got ‘potential’ ahead of his imminent move to Arsenal.
The QPR striker questioned the ‘big money’ transfer fee Arsenal are seemingly about to pay for his defensive talents.
It has been suggested that both Arsenal and Brighton have agreed on a £50 million deal for the ball-playing centre-back, as reported by BBC Sport.
And Austin, who has been a part of a fair few transfer deals himself during his career, shared his thoughts on the Gunners splashing the cash on White and suggested that they are perhaps overpaying because he’s English.
“Big money for £50 million,” said Austin. “Is that the England price tag because he’s English?
“He’s a good player, to be fair. And he’s got potential. But are we just throwing around £50 million out there.”

It doesn’t help Arsenal’s cause that Manchester United are signing World Cup winner and multiple title-winner, Raphael Varane, for a cheaper price.
It has been suggested that those in the Old Trafford boardroom are paying £41 million for his talents (Sky Sports) and now many feel this is the final piece in the jigsaw for Man United to become title-contenders.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are just trying to get back into Europe again, but they face the issue of not being able to fish in the same pond as those from Manchester.
Plus, Varane only had one year left on his Real Madrid deal, which also makes a difference, either way, it has and will be a talking point next season.
