According to CalcioMercato, Liverpool are interested in a move for Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha.

This would be a brilliant addition for the Reds. After all, Zaha has been one of the Premier League’s best players over the past decade or so, and he’s more than ready to make the step up to an elite club like Liverpool.

Many will be wondering if Zaha can cope with the standards at a club like Liverpool, but the player seems to be well aware of how good he needs to be to play for this team having faced off against them on numerous occasions in recent years.

Indeed, Zaha seems to be acutely aware just how high the standards are at Anfield, stating in the past that he’s been in awe of Virgil van Dijk.

Zaha on van Dijk

The winger spoke to The Greatest Game Podcast about the Dutch defender.

“He’s fast, calm, strong. He’s got everything,” Zaha said.

“Obviously Rio [Ferdinand] was just composed to the next level, but I feel like Virgil has everything down to a tee. Like to the point where he can muck about when a ball comes over the top and flick it around the striker and stuff and he’s fast enough to get back on to it.

“I don’t look into defender’s games as much as when I play against him.

“When we play against Liverpool it’s like, how am I going to get around this guy?”

Future teammates?

Zaha seemingly hates playing against van Dijk, but he won’t have to worry about that if he becomes his teammate next summer.

Of course, he would have to play against him in training every day, but that’s a great way for any attacker to improve their game.

Zaha knows how good Liverpool are and how brilliant van Dijk is, and that may be a deciding factor as he looks for his next move post Palace.
