Ale Moreno has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Memphis Depay has ‘no space’ at Barcelona, as he told ESPN.

The La Liga giants recently added prolific goalscorer Robert Lewandowski to their ranks following his move from Bayern Munich, as well as Brazil superstar, Raphinha, who joined from Leeds United.

How are financially-hit and debt-ridden Barcelona signing all these players? Well, Joan Laporta can’t even probably answer that one.

Either way, it has pushed Depay even further down the pecking order under Xavi, with Tottenham keen to bring the £17 million star on board.

Whilst Depay wowed the Barca fans on debut last season, Moreno thinks his time in Spain is up and he will be looking to head for the exit door after only 12 months.

“When we sat the Camp Nou and they were playing against Real Sociedad in the opening game of the season,” said Moreno.

“The first touch that Memphis Depay took on the ball, he showed for it, flicked the ball up in the air and put it over the top of the defender’s head, who was coming to challenge, and the whole Camp Nou was like ‘wait a minute, we got something here. We have something special’.

“For the first few weeks of the season, you were thinking ‘is this guy going to be good enough to carry the future of Barcelona?’

“And now 12 months later, he gone! He’s gone. The math doesn’t add up and really the space doesn’t add up. There is no space for Memphis Depay and for his profile of player.

“They are going to find him a new place. He has to find himself a new place because, otherwise, he’s not going to be on the field.”

DO TOTTENHAM NEED DEPAY?

Antonio Conte certainly needs to bulk his squad and add proven quality ahead of the new Premier League season and their return to the Champions League.

A wide forward has already been signed up by Spurs, with Richarlison joining from Everton.

Added with Dejan Kulusevski also arriving in January, Lucas Moura and star duo Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, it probably signals that Conte is well-stacked in that area.

Therefore, it has to be questioned if there is any use in bringing Depay to north London? Would he even get into Tottenham’s front three?

Whatever Spurs do, one thing is for sure, other areas of the pitch need to be looked at, such as right wing-back and a creative player in the midfield, before they should knock on Depay’s door.
