Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been waxing-lyrical over Trent Alexander-Arnold after seeing some insane stats about the defender.

Wright spoke about the full-back’s incredible progressing passing stats, and he was absolutely blown away by just how far ahead of any other player the defender is.

According to Wright’s stats, Alexander-Arnold completes four more progressive passes per game than any other Premier League player, which is absolutely insane.

What’s Wright said about Alexander-Arnold?

The pundit gave the Liverpool ace some much-deserved praise.

“I wanted to give Trent some flowers because I read something the other day. So, 50 Premier League players have four progressive passes per 90 minutes from open play. 21 players have five, five players have six, two players have seven, no players have eight, nine or 10. Trent Alexander Arnold has 11. He is out there, he is gone. He’s Elon Musk, he’s Jeff Bezos, he’s gone to space, he’s gone somewhere else. He’s got to get flowers,” Wright said.

Another level

Wright says that Alexander-Arnold is on another level, and we have to agree.

He’s, quite simply, the best playmaker in England, and he’s doing all of this from right-back.

Every now and then you get a player who truly revolutionises a position in football. Whether that’s Claude Makelele in the holding midfield role or Lionel Messi as a false nine, and we may well look back at Alexander-Arnold in a similar way.

This is the evolution of what a modern full-back can be, and nobody comes close to Alexander-Arnold in terms of chance creation right now.
