Sergio Reguilon believes Tottenham Hotspur signed a fantastic young player in Bryan Gil this summer, but warned Spurs’ matchday programme that the forward will need time.
Managing Director Fabio Paratici brought Gil to north London in a player-plus-cash deal with Erik Lamela joining Sevilla in July. Tottenham paid the La Liga outfit £21.5m plus the Argentine winger for Los Nervionenses’ Spanish prospect.
Nuno Espirito Santo has so far been patient with Gil, only awarding the 20-year-old talent 51-minutes in the Premier League. He has featured more regularly in Europe with starts in all four of their Europa Conference League ties. But is yet to score in any competition since his move and offered his only assist in August’s second-leg qualifier with Pacos de Ferreira.

Reguilon knows what Gil can offer Tottenham in time having played with his compatriot at Sevilla before moving to England. Spurs’ £32m defender spent 2019/20 on loan from Real Madrid at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
“I played with him at Sevilla, and he is a fantastic guy,” Reguilon said. “He’s very young though, so he’s going to need time to settle and get used to his new surroundings. But he is a fantastic professional. He has so much energy about him, as well, and you can see that in the way he performs on the pitch.”

Will Gil fulfil Reguilon expectations at Tottenham?
Nuno may share Reguilon’s belief that Gil needs time to get up to speed before making an impact at Tottenham. His longest league appearances so far have sat at 28 and 20-minutes, though in London derbies with Chelsea and Arsenal.
He was lively from the bench at home to Thomas Tuchel’s Blues with occasional flashes of his potential. But his impact was not enough to turn the tide back in Spurs’ favour, despite increasing their urgency.
Gil’s Europa Conference League displays have shown more of the talent Reguilon believes Tottenham signed. However, the forward – who TuttoMercatoWEB claimed Spurs gave a £42k-a-week contract to – was still finding his feet against Stade Rennes. His lively efforts against Mura also included occasional runs to nowhere, plus some classy touches.
