Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Patrick Bamford has been full of praise for Joe Gelhardt after his performance against Wolves at the weekend.
Gelhardt came off the bench against Wolves when Leeds were 1-0 down, and it’s fair to say he absolutely changed the game.
The former Wigan man may only be young, but he’s absolutely fearless and full of skill. Wolves couldn’t handle him on the day and Bamford was seriously impressed by what he saw.
What’s been said?
Bamford was full of praise for Gelhardt.
“Joffy, I’ve said it before, but he’s like a little Wayne Rooney and he is very good and he showed there what he can do. He’s 19, but he’s built like a 26-year-old and he has that baby face as well. I did text him after saying well done, but he should have scored two though,” Bamford said.

Little Rooney
Thinking back to this weekend’s game, Gelhardt did seem rather Wayne Rooney-esque.
Of course, he didn’t score, but the way he played with such skill and aggression alongside his stocky build was very much reminiscent of Rooney in his younger days.
England’s all-time top goalscorer would eventually mature into a much more balanced player, but it was that ability to take the game by the scruff of the neck that got him noticed at such a young age.
If Gelhardt goes on to be even half as good as Rooney was, Leeds will have an incredible player on their hands here.
