Speaking to JOE, Adebayo Akinfenwa has picked Darwin Nunez over Erling Haaland.
The Uruguayan striker and the Manchester City forward were the two biggest headline-making transfers of the summer, and it’s fair to say that they have had differing fortunes in the Premier League so far.
Haaland has immediately taken to life in England. He’s scored 17 league goals already and is a shoo-in for the Golden Boot it would seem.
Meanwhile, Nunez still hasn’t quite cracked the Liverpool starting XI, and while his goalscoring record is respectable, he’s not had a huge impact just yet.
However, despite this, Akinfenwa has still chosen Nunez over Haaland – but there is a sneaking suspicion that the pundit may have made this claim because he’s a known Liverpool supporter.

Nunez over Haaland
“Haaland or Nunez?” Akinfenwa was asked.
“Nunez man. I have to rep Liverpool, but Haaland is a monster, he is a monster, but he plays for City, so I’m going to go with my heart with Nunez because he’s going to be good – he better be,” Akinfenwa said.
Rivalry
This has been a one-sided rivalry so far between these two, but it could be a rivalry for the ages.
Yes, Nunez hasn’t hit top gear yet, but his pace, positioning and power make him a real threat to any defence.
He needs to settle and he needs some fine-tuning, but there’s every reason to believe that Nunez can compete with Haaland in the coming years, especially if Trent Alexander-Arnold bucks his ideas up in a creative capacity.
Liverpool and Manchester City have for the longest time been the two best teams in the Premier League, and in the future, Haaland and Nunez could be the two faces of this rivalry going forward.
