Paul Scholes has warned Arsenal fans on BT Sport 2 (April 29, 2021) not to get over-excited about the prospect of Daniel Ek buying the Gunners.

As reported by Sky Sports, Spotify owner Ek wants to buy Arsenal and is very serious about it.

The Swedish billionaire has enlisted the support of Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira and plans to make an offer of £1.8 billion in the coming days.

The 38-year-old himself recently made it public on Twitter that he wants to buy Arsenal, the club he supports.

Manchester United legend Scholes is sceptical about Ek and has warned Arsenal fans against getting carried away.

Scholes said on BT Sport 2 (April 29, 2021), as transcribed by The Mirror: “It’s the same thing. I don’t think Arsenal fans should celebrate. He’s getting interest by mentioning Bergkamp, Vieira, Henry, it’s the same old trick, it won’t be any different. You’ll just be a toy.

“He’s a money man, he’s a businessman, he wants to make money. This is what they’ll do. They’ll come to clubs like this, go to clubs like Arsenal and make lots of money. But most importantly look at where Arsenal are – 10th in the league. Ridiculous. Look at this club – not won anything for four years.”

Staying positive but cautious

Scholes does have a point. True, Ek is an Arsenal fan, but he is also a businessmen and is not going to lose money.

No businessman likes losing money, and Ek is no different. It is very likely that the Swedish billionaire will run Arsenal like a business, if he buys them.

However, Arsenal fans should be optimistic. Ek being a fan means that he will have the club’s best interests at heart.

The Swede might not spend millions and millions on new players straightaway, but he could put the right people into place who would want to take the club forward and make them successful again.

It would be better to have a billionaire businessman who is actually a fan of Arsenal in charge than someone who is not.
