Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has confirmed on the club’s official website that Mahmoud Trezeguet will be fine to play at the weekend.

Trezeguet had to be subbed off in Villa’s last game against West Ham United, after suffering a nasty cut to the face.

But the Egyptian has been training with a bandage all week and Smith has confirmed his availability ahead of Villa’s game against Wolves on Saturday.

“Trez won the penalty but caught his head on Declan Rice’s boot,” Smith said.

“He’s had a head injury which has been glued, but he’s been self administering a bandage around his head while he trains, but he’s still been doing a couple of headers so he’s fine.”

Trezeguet is likely to start for Villa now he has been passed fit to play.

The rapid attacker has been a regular member of Villa’s front-three this term, but he is under some pressure to perform.

Trezeguet’s finishing in recent weeks has been poor, and he really needs to start adding goals to his game, otherwise his spot could come under pressure from Bertrand Traore.

If Villa are able to beat Wolves next weekend, they will leapfrog their Midlands rivals and are likely to move back into the top half of the Premier League table.
