Mikel Arteta has confirmed to Football London that Gabriel Martinelli is absolutely fine ahead of Arsenal’s game against Southampton this evening.

Martinelli was taken off for Arsenal at the weekend, as they lost 1-0 against the Saints in the FA Cup.

There were some concerns that the Brazilian was withdrawn due to an injury problem.

But Arteta has ensured Arsenal fans that the young forward is ready and available for tonight’s game.

“No he was fine, it was tactical decision. He’s fine,” Artetea said.

“Obviously he’s missed again a few training sessions with the last injury.

“But yeah, I expect big things from Gabi. He’s been really helpful since he’s joined again after such a long period. So I’m really positive about him.”

Martinelli may actually have a strong chance of starting tonight, now that he has been confirmed fit.

The Daily Mirror say that Arsenal are expecting Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to miss out, which frees up a space for Martinelli down the left.

Martinelli has endured a rather difficult season, after having to fight his way back from injury, and will be looking to take another step towards full match sharpness if he is given the nod to start this evening.
