Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Nuno Tavares after his nightmare display against Crystal Palace.
The Portuguese full-back had a torrid time against the Eagles this week, and, not for the first-time this season, Mikel Arteta substituted him early on against the London club.
Rather than being critical of Tavares, Wright expressed that he hopes the full-back is being coached correctly as he believes he can be a fantastic player.
What’s been said?
Wright spoke about Tavares.
“You look at someone like Tavares and you think you hope that he’s getting the coaching that he needs right now, because we know that he’s fantastic, he’s a fantastic player,” Wright said.
“I think he’s a player who could suit playing in a back three,” Wright’s co-host said.
“Yeah, because he’s very attacking and we couldn’t get out against Palace and we have to take it on the chin that we didn’t duke it out with them,” Wright concluded.

Attributes are there
While Tavares has looked out of his depth at times this season, there is the making of a fantastic footballer there.
He’s quick, dynamic and forward-thinking, but as we can all see, his defensive discipline and positioning needs a lot of work.
With the right coaching, he could be a real asset for Arsenal, but as Wright says, he needs to be taught correctly.
Luckily, Mikel Arteta is a good manager, and he shouldn’t have any problems when it comes to ironing out Tavares’ faults.
