‘He’s dropped then’: Some Arsenal fans react to Arteta’s comments on 25-year-old

Arsenal fans on Twitter have provided a mixed reaction to Mikel Arteta’s comments on Nicolas Pepe.

A player who struggled last season following his big-money move to Arsenal, things are starting to pick up for Pepe of late.

Playing on the left-hand side, where he has to cut in on his weaker right-foot, has seemingly helped his game.

And with Pepe scoring a crucial away goal for Arsenal in midweek, his manager shared that he has come ‘a long way’ during these last few months for the club, as he told Football London.

Arteta was pretty praising of the player and shared that his work ethic has been ‘phenomenal’, and as a result, aided in him being more consistent.

But certain Arsenal fans read that as the left-footed trickster now being benched either for the Newcastle game on Sunday or for that all-important Europa League showdown next Thursday.

It could be argued that Arteta should drop Pepe for Newcastle simply because all their eggs should be in the Europa League basket.

But he simply has to start next week because he has been one of Arsenal’s better attacking threats of late.
