Harry Kane has praised his former Tottenham Hotspur teammate, Kyle Walker-Peters, for doing ‘really well’ at Southampton after he earned his maiden England call.
The Tottenham striker told his England press conference that he knows Walker-Peters from his days in north London and he is a ‘great lad’.
There were a number of new faces selected by England boss, Gareth Southgate, including Walker-Peters, Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell.
For Walker-Peters, it’s probably vindication that he has proved those at Spurs wrong because, nearly two years after they sold him to Southampton for £12 million (BBC Sport), he can now call himself an England international.
Nonetheless, this is what Kane had to say about the versatile defender, who has been thriving at left-back for the Saints this season.
“I obviously know Kyle Walker-Peters from when he was at Spurs,” said Kane.
“He is a great lad, he works really hard and he has done really well at Southampton.”

When Walker-Peters was sold by Spurs, they still had Serge Aurier on their books and they then proceeded to buy Matt Doherty from Wolves.
Since then, Aurier’s contract was ripped up by the north London club last summer, whilst Doherty has struggled for consistency.
Walker-Peters could argue that, not only could he get into Tottenham’s XI as a right wing-back, but also as a left wing-back.
Either way, the 24-year-old will probably see this move to St Mary’s as a blessing in disguise because it has done him the world of good.
