Chris Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live that Steven Gerrard is doing ‘very well’ at Rangers this season after he was asked whether he will be the next Liverpool manager.

But the ex-Celtic striker couldn’t help but aim a dig at the Anfield legend by stating that he has ‘won nothing yet’ at Rangers.

The Gers, who are hoping to stop the 10-in-a-row in Glasgow, are unbeaten this season, whilst Liverpool are hoping to move to the top of their own table in England’s top-flight tonight.

Nonetheless, Sutton was asked whether he thinks Gerrard will be the next Liverpool manager and he issued this response.

“He has got to win something at Rangers first,” said Sutton. “He has won nothing yet.

“He has done unbelievably well? He hasn’t won anything in two seasons. He’s doing very well this season. I give you that. This season. He’s doing very well.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

It does seem set in stone that Gerrard will one day be standing on the touchline at Anfield as their manager, with his former midfield rival, Frank Lampard, standing in the opposite end with Chelsea.

At this moment in time, Rangers are on course to win the Premiership title and if he can secure that trophy then it increases his chances of replacing Jurgen Klopp one day.

But whenever Klopp decides his time at Anfield is up then it will be very tough to fill his boots because he has set the bar very, very high.
