Ian Wright told Premier League Productions that Anwar El Ghazi is performing ‘so well’ for Aston Villa now after previously getting ‘stick’ from fans.

A number of weeks ago, El Ghazi couldn’t even make Aston Villa’s squad, as he struggled with form stemming from the second half of the previous campaign.

But his workman-like and never give up attitude remained intact and he is now reaping the rewards, as he has netted five goals for Villa in five matches.

That included scoring at Stamford Bridge on Monday, as Wright praised him and Villa for the ‘belief’ they are showing this season.

“He’s doing well,” said Wright. “He has come under a bit of stick from the Villa fans recently because he wasn’t doing so well. He wasn’t assisting. He wasn’t scoring.

“You are talking about a young, fit side that have got a lot of belief at what happened to them last season. Now, they are coming up against teams they know that they can beat.”

Whilst it’s a bold statement, it could be argued that El Ghazi is perhaps Villa’s most technically-gifted player even ahead of star man Jack Grealish.

There is no doubt that there is a top, top quality player within the £8 million man, but he has struggled to find that rhythm and consistency.

He is now showing signs of what he is capable of and if he continues in his ways then there’s no doubt why he cannot match Grealish’s qualities because that’s the level of talents he has in his boots.
