Ian Wright told Wrighty’s House Podcast that it’s a ‘surprise’ to him that Tottenham sold the now-thriving Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Tottenham academy product, who was involved in a swap deal with Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg in the summer, produced a Man of the Match display for Southampton against the Premier League champions on Monday night.
Walker-Peters, 23, was up against one of the best in the business in Sadio Mane, but he dealt with the Liverpool star.
Premier League legend Wright shared that Walker-Peters is doing ‘everything’ at the moment, as he hinted that he is perhaps better than one of Tottenham’s current right-backs in Serge Aurier.
“Kyle Walker-Peters extremely consistent,” said Wright. “In defence and attack – I found it a surprise that Tottenham let him go.
“With all due respect to Serge Aurier, he seems to have found a little bit of something under Mourinho.
“But as a footballer and what Kyle Walker-Peters was doing. I was like ‘hang on, he’s doing everything’. He’s getting forward. He’s defending very well. He played brilliantly against Mane.
“It’s almost like Tariq Lamptey. He’s quite brilliant.”

In regards to bringing Hojbjerg in, Spurs made the right call because the Denmark international has been his side’s best player outside of the deadly duo of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.
But many could argue that Walker-Peters is better than the erratic Aurier and also a better defender than their summer signing Matt Doherty.
Both players have struggled to cement their place in the starting XI this season, with Mourinho chopping and changing between the two.
