Speaking on his Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Richarlison ahead of the north London derby.

The Brazilian striker hasn’t had the easiest of starts to life at Tottenham. He’s yet to score his first Premier League goal for Spurs, and he’s not yet cemented his place in the starting XI.

While Richarlison isn’t a regular starter for Spurs, Seaman reckons that may not be a bad thing, claiming that the Brazilian isn’t as volatile or aggressive when he starts games compared to when he comes off of the bench.

Better off the bench

Seaman gave his analysis of Richarlison.

“He’s got good qualities and when he comes on as a sub he’s really impacting the game, but that’s where he is right now, it’s like will he or won’t he start? He’s got different attributes than people like Son, he disrupts defences with his aggression. He can change a game, but when he starts he’s different, he’s not as volatile from the word go, and maybe he should just go all-out, he’s a handful there’s no doubt about that,” Seaman said.

More explosive

Seaman is right about Richarlison, he can be quite conservative in the early knockings of a game if he starts.

Richarlison is all about getting in defenders’ faces, being a nuisance and riling people up, and that’s a role better served off the bench.

Not only does he have more energy than the other players when he’s subbed on, he’s also able to play without as much fear of a yellow card. After all, if he’s coming on later in the game, there’s less time for him to pick up that second booking.

Richarlison may be best served as being Spurs’ super sub.
