Some Liverpool fans are mocking Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola over his latest perceived saltiness.
The Spaniard has taken a dig at the newly-crowned Premier League champions and claims that one Reds star is certain to win PFA Player of the Year.
Liverpool players have claimed this award in each of the past two seasons – Mo Salah in 2018 and Virgil van Dijk in 2019 – but Manchester City won the title both years.
And even though the trophy is at Anfield this season, Guardiola says that a Liverpool player – possibly Jordan Henderson, who skippered the club to a first league success since 1990 – is guaranteed to win it again.
He said via The Echo: “No, no, [it] will be won by a Liverpool player. When we won the Premier Leagues, it was won by a Liverpool player.
“When they win the Premier League, I’m pretty sure they are going to win the player of the season award. So this award is always for Liverpool.”
Here’s how fans of the Merseyside club reacted to Guardiola’s comments on Twitter:
Guardiola predicted one thing right, as Henderson was named the Writers’ Player of the Year shortly after his comments.
But it’s the Premier League players who vote for the main award and the City boss can have no real complaints if the Liverpool captian does make it a double.
Kevin de Bruyne has been superb for City, scoring 11 goals and setting up 19 in the Premier League, but Henderson has helped orchestrate history at Anfield and that has to be acknowledged, too.
