Some Arsenal fans are excited by Mikel Arteta’s comments about Houssem Aouar a little earlier today.
We’re in the final few days of the transfer window and the 22-year-old is not yet an Arsenal player, despite plenty of speculation.
The Gunners have seen two bids rejected by Lyon – the most recent being £35 million [RMC Sport] – but it’s been reported in recent weeks that the Ligue 1 side want at least £10 million more.
It was thought that Arteta and Edu had a deadline of Friday to strike an agreement for the French midfielder.
Speaking to a press conference today ahead of Sunday’s clash with Sheffield United, the Spanish head coach revealed he was ‘very confident’ in Arsenal’s transfer nous when asked about Aouar.
He said: “Well, I am very confident in what we are trying to do internally. [I am getting] clarity and support from everybody at the club to try and improve the team if we can.”
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to their head coach’s comments on Twitter:
Arsenal have played hardball with Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon’s president, over transfers before.
Three years ago, the North Londoners finally signed Alexandre Lacazette after much deliberation and posturing from Aulas.
The Frenchman has been similarly as vocal throughout this saga and although he gave a deadline of today, the window doesn’t shut until Monday.
