Ajax supporters have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Steven Bergwijn is open to joining them from Tottenham Hotspur.
Dutch journalist, Mike Verweij, has claimed that Bergwijn likes the idea of moving back to Holland and to the Johan Cruyff Arena amid rumours that he has no future at Spurs, as he told Voetbal Zone.
During the January transfer window of 2020, Bergwijn left Holland and the colours of PSV for life in the Premier League with Spurs.
Even though he started his career with a goal on debut against Manchester City, he hasn’t had much to shout about since.
The flying winger only scored one Premier League goal last season and he is yet to open his account during this campaign.
Amid the rumours about Bergwijn leaving, Ajax supporters have welcomed the idea of the ex-PSV man putting on their colours.
At the end of the day, it’s not working out for the quick-footed trickster in north London and it does seem as though he needs a fresh start elsewhere.
Moving back to the Eredivisie, where it all started for him, would perhaps be a wise move for the player.
Plus, if he does join Ajax, then he will be tasked with trying to help his team knock his former club off top spot in Holland’s top-tier.
Not only that, unlike at Spurs where they are playing in the Europa Conference League – and they may not be in Europe at all for much longer.
Bergwijn will get the chance to showcase his talent on the Champions League stage because Erik ten Hag’s side blitzed their way past the group stages.
Either way, next month could be pretty crucial for Bergwijn and what he does during the next leg of his currently stuttering career.
