Jordan Henderson has claimed that Caoimhin Kelleher is a ‘top draw’ player for Liverpool, as he told Premier League Productions.

The Liverpool captain praised the 23-year-old goalkeeper who was ‘outstanding’ for his side during their action-packed 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

Kelleher was filling in for Liverpool’s number one, Alisson Becker, who was absent because of COVID.

But even though such an important figure was missing from Jurgen Klopp’s XI, it didn’t make too much of a difference because of Kelleher’s performance.

Henderson would have seen the Irishman grow during these past 12 months, as he also praised how ‘calm’ he is on the ball.

“He’s top draw,” said Henderson. “Every time he has come in, he has been fantastic. In the penalty shootout (against Leicester), he was brilliant and got us into the next round.

“Then against Chelsea, he is calm on the ball. Showed great personality. He made some great saves. I thought he was outstanding.

“We are going to need him for the next few games, especially with Ali being out. Caoimhin’s been outstanding and it’s a big bonus for us.”

Kelleher may only have two Premier League starts to his name this season, but he is producing performances like a seasoned pro.

The 23-year-old was handed some minutes in the Champions League last season and was as equally as good.

It could be argued that he has been Liverpool’s most improved player during this past year and one that is ready to fill Alisson’s void if he is no longer wanted or if he left.

Of course, there’s no reason why Alisson won’t be Liverpool’s number one for a long time yet, but the fans now know they have a more than suitable rising star behind him.
