Michael Owen has said that Neco Williams has impressed him so much when he has watched Liverpool’s development side, as per his comments to BT Sport, during their live Champions League coverage.
Williams has found life tough at times in Liverpool’s first-team, and has already experienced his fair share of criticism.
However, the teenager was absolutely brilliant yesterday as Liverpool picked up a 1-0 win over Ajax.
Williams provided the assist for Curtis Jones’ goal with a floated cross, and looked assured in everything he did throughout the contest.
Despite coming up against a tricky customer in David Neres, Williams never looked overawed.
And Owen felt it was the first time that Liverpool fans really got to see the talent that he knows the Welshman has, after watching him play for the Reds’ under-23’s.
“It really was a night for the youngsters,” Owen said. “I touched on it before the game about Neco Williams and we haven’t seen the best of him.
“Everyone who has seen him so far is going is he good enough?
“But I’m telling you, in under-23 games… he’s a brilliant, brilliant player and he’s got a real chance.

“That’s the first time tonight where he’s shown himself for what he is, he’s only going to get better – he is a talent.”
Williams could well have another chance to build on his positive performance at the weekend.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold out, Williams is now getting a run of games in Liverpool’s first-team, and his display last night showed that he is starting to grow in confidence.
The Reds are next in action against Wolves, in what looks to be another tough test.
