Dean Saunders says Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is ‘better than’ what Antonio Conte can pick from at Tottenham Hotspur, as he told talkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

The former Wales international backed the England centre-back to secure a possible move away from Old Trafford in the summer and added that, if he was at Tottenham, then he would ‘get in the team tomorrow’.

Prior to the World Cup, Maguire was struggling with game time and injuries at Manchester United, despite that, the player himself enjoyed a number of fruitful performances in Qatar for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Well, upon the 29-year-old’s return to domestic action, Luke Shaw started ahead of him at centre-back, before he was picked to start against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

It’s raised the question of what Maguire should do during the January transfer window and whether he should leave.

Well, when Saunders was asked about Maguire possibly signing for Spurs, he could see it happening, plus he agreed that he’s good enough to join another team in Europe.

“He’s better than what Spurs have got,” said Saunders. “Straight away (he would get into the Spurs team). If he was at Spurs, then he would be in the team tomorrow.”

MAGURE NOT THE ANSWER TO TOTTENHAM’S PROBLEMS

Yes, Spurs can’t stop conceding goals, but most importantly they can’t stop conceding the first goal, but someone like Harry Maguire isn’t the answer to their issues.

A lack of long-term planning, with Antonio Conte’s contract running down is one issue. Added to that, problems upstairs, including with how Daniel Levy is running the club.

Then there is the midfield problem, not with players like Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg because they are top, top quality.

But a lack of creative talent, as was proven during their defeat to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
