James Milner told BBC Sport that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ‘very fortunate’ in his career so far after he scored a late winner for Liverpool against Aston Villa on Saturday.
After being left out of England’s recent squad, then making a costly error against Real Madrid in midweek, Liverpool’s academy product answered his critics in a pretty fine fashion yesterday.
Added with his assist against Arsenal last week, the 22-year-old struck a brilliant pinpoint shot into the bottom corner to seal all three points for his side.
After the game, Milner lauded TAA’s character after a troublesome couple of weeks for the youngster.
“It says a lot about his character,” said Milner. “People forget how young is he, such a young age. He’s been very fortunate in his career so far, so being left out of the England squad is probably one of his first disappointments.
“But he’s got a massive goal at the end, it was a great position he took up in midfield just before. We’re delighted for him.”

During the past week, Alexander-Arnold has shown Gareth Southgate that, from an offensive standpoint, he needs to be on that plane to the Euros.
But from a defensive standpoint, he has also proven why there are doubts about his qualities.
Despite that, TAA has surely done enough during these past few years and he has enough talent going forward to allow him that golden ticket in the summer.
