Craig Burley says ‘not a chance’ Steven Gerrard becomes Liverpool’s next manager after he was ‘shown up’ at Aston Villa.
Back in October, Aston Villa sacked Steven Gerrard as their manager with the team hovering above the Premier League’s relegation zone on just goal difference.
Fast forward to the present, now under the stewardship of the remarkable Unai Emery, Villa are sitting fifth in the Premier League table and one point above Liverpool.

The Reds have a game in hand, but given that Manchester City are the only ones to have picked up more points since Emery’s arrival is just out of this world.
Either way, when Gerrard left Rangers for Villa, there was talk that he would one day be Liverpool’s next manager, well, as former Scotland international Craig Burley touched upon, that’s not happening now, as he told ESPN.
“Yes, (Lampard’s stock is lower than Gerrard’s),” said Burley. “Although, it’s not a good look. Unai Emery is a very good coach, isn’t he?! I think it has kind of shown up.
“I think when you see what Unai Emery has done – it puts it into context trying to push some of these former players.
“Gerrard had success at Rangers, but that’s different. You have one other big team you are fighting against.
On Gerrard to Liverpool when Klopp leaves: “No chance. Not a chance.”

GERRARD HAS BEEN EMBARRASSED
As a player, the 42-year-old was one of the best and perhaps Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
But when it comes to being a manager, both him and Frank Lampard, who has lost five in five games since re-joining Chelsea, are proving to be out of their depth.
The job Emery has done at Villa is outstanding, and given that they can get Europe this season, is pretty impressive.
