Adebayo Akinfenwa has stated that he would pick Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale to start for England at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as he told Sky Sports.

The Wycombe striker, who is the world’s strongest footballer according to FIFA, shared that Ramsdale has been ‘on job’ for Arsenal this season.

If it wasn’t for an injury before the international break, Ramsdale would have probably been donning England’s number one gloves right now.

The 23-year-old has been in top form for the Gunners this season and he could argue that he has been one of the best signings of the season.

Huge debates rage as to whether Everton’s Jordan Pickford or Ramsdale should be England’s number one, as Akinfenwa is backing the man at the Emirates.

“That’s my guy, at the moment,” said Akinfenwa. “I think he starts. Ramsdale starts for me and he’s Arsenal.

“That’s how you know I like him, he’s Arsenal. But Ramsdale starts, I think he has been on job this season.”

Whilst Ramsdale has been in fine form on the domestic stage, as Pickford proved during England’s 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland, he hasn’t put a foot wrong for his country.

From the Everton keeper’s 40 matches for the Three Lions, he hasn’t made a single mistake, so it’s hard for Southgate to drop him from that sense.

Added with that, whether it’s the World Cup, UEFA Nations League or the recent Euros, Pickford has always been a standout performer for his country during these major tournaments.

Regardless of what happens, England have two top keepers to pick from for international matches because, outside of the two, there isn’t much to shout about.
