Sepp van den Berg is very much a forgotten man of the Liverpool ranks.

Michael Edwards brought the Dutch defender to Anfield in the summer of 2019 and big things were expected of him.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Preston and has re-joined the Championship side for the whole of 2021-22 campaign.

Still only 19, Van den Berg could yet be a very big player for Liverpool’s senior side.

And according to a report from his teammate, he is doing just fine with the Lilywhites.

Greg Cunningham has claimed that the big Liverpool teenager is ‘incredible’ since returning to Deepdale.

He said to the second tier club’s official website: “He’s been incredible since he’s come to the club, we’re delighted to get him for the season and he just shows every game he’s going from strength to strength.”

Not ready

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp clearly didn’t believe he was ready for Premier League football this season, hence why Ibrahima Konate was signed during the summer.

Klopp didn’t, however, sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum and until last week, 18-year-old Harvey Elliott was operating in that role prior to his serious ankle injury.

But as mentioned, Van den Berg is still only 19. There is plenty and plenty of time for him to be ready for Premier League football with Liverpool.

We saw how much a loan spell in the Championship can prepare you for the top flight with Elliott’s heroics at Blackburn last term, so this time next year it’ll be interesting to see if Van den Berg is any closer to the big time.
