Tottenham Hotspur ace Christian Eriksen impressed against West Ham United on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has told ESPN that he feels team-mate Christian Eriksen has made ‘unbelievable progress’ over the last two years.

Tipped as a star of the future during his time with Ajax, Eriksen left the Amsterdam club in 2013 in order to sign for Tottenham, with Sky Sports reporting that Spurs paid just £11.5million to land him.

In over four years with the club, Eriksen has become one of the Premier League’s top playmakers, impressing with his creativity and his set pieces, serving as the chief creator in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

On Saturday, Eriksen starred again as he played a superb pass for Dele Alli leading to Harry Kane’s opening goal, and then grabbed the third goal himself in a 3-2 victory over West Ham United.

The 25-year-old became the all-time leading Danish goalscorer in Premier League history with that goal, surpassing Nicklas Bendtner as he continues to impress for Tottenham.

Eriksen has undoubtedly put himself in the same bracket as other Premier League playmakers such as Kevin De Bruyne, Philippe Coutinho and Mesut Ozil, and he is now receiving the deserved praise.

Now, team-mate Jan Vertonghen has told ESPN that he thinks Eriksen has made ‘unbelievable progress’ in the last two years, living up to the potential he showed at Vertonghen’s former club Ajax.

Vertonghen added that Eriksen has been ‘enormous’ for Tottenham in recent years, underlining his importance to Mauricio Pochettino’s side – and Spurs will simply hope that they can keep hold of him for the long term.

“I think Christian has made unbelievable progress,” Vertonghen said. “I’ve known him for many years and he’s always been a great talent, a great player, but in the last two seasons he’s made great progress.”

“Everyone always said that you have to be the best playmaker in the world with his quality and the last years have definitely been big, big steps forward. He’s scoring goals and giving assists and even when he drops a line [plays deeper], like he did for us in a couple of games, he does very well. Christian, especially in the last two seasons, has been enormous,” he added.
